Can I get past the first page?
Seriously, though?
I'm awesome at editing for other people. I dive right in and get to the core issues almost immediately... I can do a manuscript in 2 weeks, even!
But when it comes to my own writing, I freeze. I am trying to do a rewrite of Lilith, my NaNoWriMo novel from 2011... but I can't seem to get past the first page yet...
I was hoping a year would have been sufficient distance from the 'script so that I could look at it more objectively, but alas.
Well... I AM going to get past the first page. I CAN! I WILL... and it will be amazing.

Amazingly helpful! :)
DeleteYes, you can! Try to turn off that editor for a while and get lost in the story. Remember, you are a good editor, so you can always fix what needs fixing...after the story is out. Good luck to you!
ReplyDeletethe first page is hard. Rewriting in general is harder. I always find myself going "Wait, I already wrote this. Maybe I should just rework those old words." They never turn out right and I have to bite the bullet. I always have to rewrite, and it's never pleasant.
ReplyDeleteIcan and Iwill are two of the strongest words. Keep them.

It's difficult to get past that first page, but sometimes you just have to let it go and move on. Come back to it again later after having worked on the rest. You can do it!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it. I like Mel's idea. Skip the first page if it is a stumbling block. It will still be there when you get back. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement, peeps. Greatly appreciate it!!!
